Astrochron is an astronomy-planning service operated from Ontario, Canada. This policy explains how Astrochron handles information when you use the service.

Information Astrochron uses
Account information
You can use most of Astrochron without an account. If you create an account, Astrochron uses your email address and sign-in information to authenticate you and keep your account available across devices.
Account features may store things such as your preferences, followed objects, saved events, and alerts.
Observing location
Astrochron uses your selected observing location and time zone to calculate your local sky. Your observing location is normally saved on your device.
If you create a location-specific alert, Astrochron may save the location information needed to provide that reminder. If you choose to include precise location information in a bug report, it may also be sent with that report.
Maps, place search, and location lookups may send the information needed for those features to the service providers that supply them.
Usage information
Astrochron uses limited first-party analytics to understand how the service is used, whether features are working, and where improvements are useful. This may include general information about pages or features used, account actions, device or browser type, referral or campaign information, and the version of Astrochron being used.
Astrochron does not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
Feedback and support
If you report a bug, request a feature, or contact support, Astrochron stores the information you provide and may attach limited page, device, account, or astronomy context that helps investigate the request.
Precise observing coordinates are included with a bug report only when you choose to include them.
Astrochron uses email for sign-in codes, astronomy reminders you request, and support replies. Information needed to send those messages and understand whether they were delivered may be processed by Astrochron and its email provider.
How Astrochron uses information
Astrochron uses information to:
- provide and secure the service;
- sign you in and synchronize account features;
- calculate astronomy for your selected place and time;
- save preferences, follows, events, and alerts;
- send reminders you request;
- understand reliability and feature use;
- respond to feedback and support requests; and
- prevent abuse or unauthorized access.
Service providers
Astrochron uses service providers for functions such as hosting, authentication, database storage, email delivery, maps, and location lookups. Those providers receive only the information needed to provide the relevant service and handle it under their own terms and privacy practices.
Some providers may process information outside Canada.
Astrochron does not sell or rent personal information. Information may also be disclosed where required by law or where reasonably necessary to protect the service, its users, or the rights of others.
Browser storage
Astrochron uses browser storage and, where required by its service providers, essential cookies or similar technology for functions such as sign-in sessions, observing location, preferences, and temporary application state.
Astrochron does not use advertising cookies.
Clearing browser data may sign you out or remove settings saved only on that device.
Retention and account deletion
Astrochron keeps information only as long as reasonably needed to provide, secure, maintain, and improve the service or handle support requests.
Deleting your account removes your account data, including your preferences, follows, saved events, alerts, reminder settings, and active sessions.
Some anonymous usage statistics may remain, but they will no longer be linked to your account. Feedback you submitted may be kept for support and product improvement with your account identity removed.
Deleting an account does not ban the email address. You can create a new account later, but information from the deleted account will not return.
You can continue using Astrochron without signing in.
Your choices
You can:
- use most of Astrochron without an account;
- change or clear the observing location saved on your device;
- manage your follows, saved events, alerts, and preferences;
- choose whether to include precise location information in a bug report;
- sign out or delete your account; and
- ask about, access, or correct personal information associated with you.
To make a privacy request, contact support@astrochron.app. Astrochron may need to verify that the request relates to you before providing or changing account information.
Security
Astrochron uses technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect account and operational information. No online service can guarantee perfect security, but Astrochron limits the information it collects and restricts access to it.
Changes to this policy
Astrochron may update this policy as the service changes. The current version will always show its effective date and last-updated date. Material changes will be communicated in a reasonable way when appropriate.
