Terms of Use
Effective date: September 4, 2026
Last updated: September 4, 2026
These Terms of Use govern your use of Astrochron, an astronomy-planning service operated from Ontario, Canada.
Questions about these Terms can be sent to support@astrochron.app.
1. Using Astrochron
Astrochron helps you explore astronomical objects, understand your local sky, find upcoming events, and plan observations.
Most astronomy features can be used without an account. If you create an account, you agree to provide an email address you are authorized to use and to keep your sign-in codes and account access private.
2. Astronomy information
Astrochron is a planning and information service. Astronomical predictions, visibility, satellite information, source data, and observing circumstances can change, and real-world conditions may differ from what the service shows.
Use your own judgment and verify important timing or observing details when needed.
3. Saved items and alerts
Follows, saved events, and alerts are optional account features.
Astrochron reminders are provided as a convenience. Delivery can be delayed or prevented by updated event information, service interruptions, email-provider processing, or settings outside Astrochron. You can manage or disable reminders at any time.
Astrochron may hold, update, cancel, or mark an alert unavailable if it cannot safely confirm the event or timing needed to send it.
4. Acceptable use
Do not use Astrochron to:
- access another person's account or private information without permission;
- interfere with the service, its security, or its availability;
- submit malicious content or abuse automated features; or
- violate applicable law or the rights of others.
Reasonable personal, educational, research, and observing-planning use is welcome.
5. Feedback
If you submit feedback, a bug report, or a feature request, you allow Astrochron to use that submission to provide support, investigate issues, and improve the service.
Do not include passwords, one-time codes, access tokens, or other sensitive credentials in feedback.
6. Content and intellectual property
Astrochron's original software, design, writing, and branding are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
Astrochron also uses astronomical data, imagery, maps, software, and other material from third parties or public sources. Those materials remain subject to their own licences, notices, and attribution requirements.
You may use Astrochron normally and share ordinary links or screenshots. You may not copy, resell, or repackage a substantial part of Astrochron as a competing service except where applicable law or a separate licence allows it.
7. Third-party services
Astrochron relies on third-party services for parts of its infrastructure, data, maps, and email delivery. Those services are responsible for their own availability, content, terms, and privacy practices.
8. Availability and changes
Astrochron may add, change, suspend, or remove features as the service develops. The service may occasionally be unavailable because of maintenance, provider outages, data-source issues, or technical problems.
Astrochron may restrict an account when reasonably necessary to protect users, the service, or its security, or to address misuse or legal requirements.
9. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
Astrochron is provided on an "as available" basis. Reasonable efforts are made to provide useful and accurate astronomy information, but the service is not guaranteed to be uninterrupted or error-free.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Astrochron and its operator are not responsible for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses arising from use of, or inability to use, the service.
Nothing in these Terms limits a right or remedy that applicable law does not allow to be limited.
10. Privacy
Astrochron's Privacy Policy explains how information is handled.
11. Changes to these Terms
Astrochron may update these Terms as the service changes. The current version will show its effective date and last-updated date.
If a material change affects account use, reasonable notice will be provided when appropriate. If you do not agree with updated Terms, you may stop using Astrochron and delete your account.
12. Governing law and contact
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in Ontario, Canada, without limiting rights that cannot legally be waived where you live.
